Around the Centre - Energy saving

April 2008

Work on energy saving modifications in T Block is nearing completion. All labs have been fitted with new motorised dampers and controls and individual roof fans have been removed. New filter assemblies are being fitted in the basement and final commissioning of the whole installation will take place soon. WCFM expects to extend the work in the future to R Block and perhaps elsewhere.

The “Energy Centre” in the Wilton Centre Annexe contains a large mechanical plant room full of chillers, pumps and pipework designed to control the large heat load of mainframe computers. Since this load no longer exists, the equipment can be removed to create a useful space. A potential tenant has expressed keen interest in the space and work has now started on removal of the equipment.
