Success at the double for GMT in business awards
June 2011
Centre resident Guardian Marine Testing Limited (GMT) scooped double success in the Best New Business Awards 2010 for businesses in the Tees Valley.
The company was one of 150 entries for the awards and won the Service category, followed by the overall Best New Business 2011 prize.
Managing Director Andrew Shaw said when the entries were read out, they were delighted to hear that they had won the Service category.
"Then there’s a pause in proceedings before the final overall winner is announced which is between the winners of each category. We were astounded to hear that we’d won that as well," he added.
"It isn’t the prize money that is important to us, it's the fact that the judges, who didn’t know any of us, judged that GMT was doing a good job. That was a real vote of confidence and encouraged us enormously."
GMT has since received feedback from the organisers about what caught their attention. This included good Gross Domestic Project and the number of new jobs created for the North East region.
They particularly liked the way they had made the effort to create a fully-integrated system looking after the samples from even before bunkering.
"The fact that we did this over and above our competitors made it clear we weren’t just trying to recreate what already existed in the industry," said Andrew.
