The pipework which is now in place as the NIBF build project progresses
Construction work on the £12m expansion of CPI’s National Industrial Biotechnology Facility (NIBF) moved on significantly over the Summer.
The Build is on schedule for completion by the end of 2010 and many of the main components, including processing vessels and pipework, are now in place.
Designed and managed by CPI, the NIBF Demonstrator will be tailored to the production of fuels, high volume platform chemicals, and low volume specialty and higher value chemicals using renewable feed stocks such as biomass and waste. It has also been designed to integrate chemical processing and bioprocessing.
In June, Philip Rutnam, interim Permanent Secretary at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) visited CPI to see the progress of the new facility and held talks on Industrial Biotechnology with senior industrialists from a variety of chemical companies.
