When Chris Watson lost his job at Corus, he feared he would be out of work for a long time. Yet, remarkably, he landed an interview within a day and secured a new job inside two days.
Chris, 47, was one of the 1,800 people who lost their jobs after the closure of the Corus plant was announced earlier this year.
He attended a jobs fair staged by Job Centre Plus, supported by One North East, at which a number of companies were represented, including Wilton Centre resident the specialist recruitment company TechConsult UK.
Its Principal Recruitment Consultant Ian Marshall put him in touch with Stockton engineering company Francis Brown. Within two days, he had been appointed.
Chris, of Teesville, on Teesside, who has become an Estimator with the company, said: “A lot of people I worked with lost their jobs when Corus closed and I am delighted to be back in work.”
Ian Marshall said: “Former Corus workers like Chris have experience that is invaluable to other companies.”
