Craig Crowther has been appointed Project Director for the National Skills Academy Process Industries (NSAPI), formerly known as PINSA, and has moved into the Wilton Centre.

PINSA is made up of representatives from the chemicals, pharmaceuticals and polymer industries and Craig’s job will be to help develop innovative approaches to recruitment and training.

He has worked in both public and private sector strategic roles and joins the project on secondment from the TTE Technical Training Group. Before that, he spent a number of years as Group HR Manager for the Thomas Swan Group in Consett, County Durham.

He is a member of the North East Process Industries Cluster Skills & Education Strategy Team and Deputy Chair of the North East Chemical Industries Training Organisation.

Craig and Office Manager Beverley Robinson moved into the Wilton Centre at the beginning of February and are based in Room A336, from where they will write the Academy Business Plan to be submitted to the DfES and Learning & Skills Council later this year.

The Academy will focus on employer-endorsed vocational learning with links into Higher Education and consider the skills needs of the existing and future workforce.

Craig said: “It is absolutely vital for our industries to be able to recruit, develop and retain people with the right competencies and skills to enable the sector to grow. The Academy is an essential project for the process industries in the UK.”

Employers and other interested parties received a detailed update on the work of the Project Team at a recent CIA/NEPIC Roadshow event at Ramside Hall, Durham, where Craig gave a presentation and took questions during the afternoon session.

Anyone wishing to contact the team should ring Craig on 07753 725226 or Bev on 07789 722170 or email b.robinson@process.nsacademy.co.uk
