RPS%2C+a+Wilton+Centre+tenant%2C+has+scooped+a+prestigious+business+award.
The+company+won+the+Environment+Category+of+the+North-East+Business+Awards+2004%2C+presented+last+year.%0D%0A%0D%0AJudge+and+sponsor+Northumbrian+Water+said+it+was+impressed+with+RPS%92s+commitment+to+recycling+packaging.%0D%0A%0D%0ATurning+rubbish+into+an+asset+for+companies+lies+at+the+heart+of+RPS%92s+business%2C+which+sells+the+idea+to+firms+that+instead+of+being+thrown+away%2C+packaging+can+be+collected+and+re-used.%0D%0A%0D%0ASuch+an+approach+is+cost-effective+and+environmentally+friendly+and+over+a+12-month+period%2C+RPS+at+Wilton+reconditioned+150%2C000+pallets%2C+which+were+delivered+to+clients%2C+equating+to+3%2C300+tonnes+of+wood.%0D%0A%0D%0AAnd+30%2C000+builders+bags+were+overhauled+so+they+could+be+used+again%2C+a+reduction+of+75+tonnes+of+polypropylene.%0D%0A%0D%0AEven+damaged+pallets+are+not+wasted+because+RPS+can+extract+boards+for+use+in+renovating+pallets%2C+reducing+the+new+timber+needed.+Boards+beyond+repair+are+recycled+by+being+chipped+by+a+local+company.%0D%0A%0D%0ARPS+also+received+recognition+under+the+DTI+E-commerce+2004+business+awards.+The+%91highly+commended%92+award+was+in+recognition+of+business+excellence+during+its+start-up.
